In
life, there are opportunities that come to you that are unique
and interesting.
In 2003, an architect approached me about bidding on a
restoration project. I jumped at
the offer not really knowing what I was getting into.
The project was a Frank Lloyd Wright home built in 1908 in our
small town of Springfield, OH.
After an extensive process I was awarded the contract to
reproduce the dining table and chairs for the Burton J. Westcott
home.
Working from original Wright drawings of the table thought to be
in the original home, we constructed the large oak table and 8
straight back spindle chairs.
The
table is a magnificent design with a center 4 leg base and platform
that supports the inner section of the table.
The extending outside pieces are supported by four legs that
protrude above the tables surface to be crown with art glass light
fixtures.
These legs also house wooden casters on the base to roll out when
inserting the leaves into the table. The chairs are straight back
spindle chairs with green mohair upholstered seats.
Both table and chairs contain about 200 linear feet of 3/8 x 3/8
square wood trim accents. When the pieces are
assembled
together it is a magnificent design, especially once in place in the
house with the built in buffet.
I encourage anyone who would like to see the Burton J. Westcott
House to take the tour. The restoration was meticulous and thorough.
